Do You Need to Supplement Your A, B, C’s?

There are so many types of vitamins and supplements available today and people are confused about whether or not they should be using them.  Generally, most people get all the nutrients they need from a balanced diet following Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating. However, some individuals (e.g. women who may become pregnant, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, older adults, vegetarians) may not be able to meet their vitamin and mineral needs by following the Food Guide.  These people may benefit from taking a vitamin or mineral supplement and should first talk to their physician or registered dietitian to determine their eating habits and needs before taking anything.
