Healthy Eating @ Work

Working Canadians spend at least 60% of their waking hours at their job and eat at least one meal during the workday. Workplaces are ideal settings to promote healthy eating.

Productivity and concentration can be optimized by providing adequate time for meals and access to healthy food every day in the workplace.

Ideas to Promote Healthy Eating at Your Workplace:

  • Contact a local farmer to set-up a mini farmers market at your workplace.
  • Choose local caterers for meetings and events that feature local foods on their menus such as Peterborough EATS.
  • Ensure that breaks are appropriately scheduled and that staff have enough time to eat
  • Ensure that your workplace provides a clean, attractive eating area that encourages and supports employees to bring their own meals, snacks and beverages.
  • Provide appropriate shade for any available outdoor lunch seating.
  • Workplace meetings and events demonstrate a commitment to employee health and well-being by incorporating healthy eating and supporting environmentally friendly initiatives.
  • Ask cafeterias, restaurants and vending companies in your workplace to offer healthy choices.
